LUDLOW TUART FOREST EMERGENCY - ACTION STATIONs

2004-08-03 5:27 AM +0800
ATTENTION! get involved with the Save the Tuart Campaign...

http://lists.perthimc.asn.au/listinfo/save_the_tuarts

EVERYBODY/ANYBODY... good friends, greenies, eco-geeks, anti-corporate dissidents and serious earthytype-comrades of the beautiful Tuart - lets discuss actions and plans to keep the Tuart tree from the hands of corporate rapists - Cable Sands.

the Save The Tuarts list is for people who want to genuinely help keep these precious trees from the hands of profit making machines. [particularly the LUDLOW proposal by Cable Sands Mining].

see: www.cablesands.com
or: www.savethetuarts.org

we meet weekly here in Perth to discuss and plan various peaceful, NVDAs to demonstrate/protest/disrupt the recent approval by WA gov to allow sand mining to pulverise the proposed area.

so! if u wish to fight with us, and feel you can support and assist in planning this campaign, please let us know...

http://lists.perthimc.asn.au/listinfo/save_the_tuarts

we need your help now.

thanks - we look fwd to engaging...

LUDLOW TUART FOREST EMERGENCY - ACTION STATIONs

The WA govt has SIGNED OFF on the so called 'Tuart Preservation Plan' with Cable
Sands (BeMax being the parent company).

This means that mining in the Ludlow Tuart Forest, situated 21/2 hours drive south of Perth, can begin at any time now.

Here are a few points regarding Ludlow that have come from our website: www.savethetuarts.org:

- It is the last tall tuart forest in the world and is under threat from titanium mining.
- It is a rare ecosystem with less than 2000 hectares remaining.
- The majority of the trees which would be destroyed are between 80 to 500 years
old.
- There would be NO extra jobs as a result of having the mine.
- The mine would use 4.4 million litres of water per day.
- The main product of the mine, titanium dioxide, which used to whiten things
including soap, toothpaste, makeup and sunscreen!(there are alternatives to all
these products which dont used titanium dioxide, they are still white!)
- There is no value-adding to the titanium dioxide - profit goes elsewhere, and
Australia will only receive a pittance in royalties.
- Mining was already turned down in 1985.
- The new owners of Cable Sands are only intrested in the continued operation of
the processing plant at Bunbury and have no intrest in the profitability of the
proposed ludlow mine.
- Mining would involve the extraction of radioactive heavy minerals, for which no radiation management plan has been prepared.
- It is also a sacred site for the Wardandi people. It has traditionally been a
meeting place for many tribes, and is the site of the Wonnerup massacre in which
over 250 indigenous people were killed and still remain.

So, this is a plea for your help.

We need as many people as possible to write letters to Geoff Gallop (WA Premier), Judy Edwards (WA Environment Minister), Local MPs, BeMax, and newspapers...

We also need to people to distribute the flyer and petition as much as possible.
Just take them with you whever you go.

All information, including the flyer, petition, letters (if you don not want to
write one yourself) and contact details, is available on our website:
www.savethetuarts.org.

We also need as many people down at the camp as possible. Everyone is welcome (and encouraged). Even if you just want to drop in or spend a night (or 50) and check out what all the fuss is about! The campers are pretty friendly and have promised not to bite!

Of course there are always a million things to do so if you find yourself with
some spare time that you are wondering what to do with (hahaha) then just give us a call.

FROM http://savethetuarts.org

Write letters to the editor.

It is important that as many people as possible send a letter to the editor of their local community newspaper, the West Australian, the Sunday Times, with their concerns about the imminent mining in the Tuart Forest. Notes on what to include in the letter can be found here: http://savethetuarts.org/appeals_store/letters.html

More details are available from the Friends of the Tuart Forest on (08) 9754 2049, or the Wilderness Society on (08) 9420 7255

A lot of people(and i've talked to dozens and dozens) don't really know what to think about the whole messed up Ludlow scenario. Of course they are anti, and they're the ones that are AWARE of what's happening, the people who read newspapers, watch the news and pay attention to what the mass media will spoon-feed us.

From what i've gathered, the general consensus is one of "...well, they're(C.Sands/BMax) going to do it anyway, what can i do? And it doesn't affect me..." as though it's just one last hand being dipped into the pocket of Mother earth.

But what even LESS people are aware of, is that after Ludlow, Cable Sands intend on moving onto the Osmington area nearer to Margaret River for the same minerals
AND then the Boranup area South of Margaret River as there too is a pocket of goodness.
How many are aware of this?
Come on, the fight doesn't stop at Ludlow.
Perhaps if they knew that it just keeps on going until there's nothing left, that then people would be more inclined to stand up, speak out and protect what is rightfully everyone's.
Lets face it-people, the MASSES are robots and not even intelligent at that.
99% of Perth's population(the majority of W.A.s pop'), have been to/regularly visit/have friends/family/metaphysical ties to that particular part of the world( South West AFTER Busselton).

Of that 99%, 98% have never even BEEN anwhere near to, or through the Ludlow Tuart forest, as it's out of the way from "...our weekends down South" and from the highway appears to be nothing more than a white farmer's land that his ancestors just happened to STEAL off our Wardandi cousins, who never claimed ownership anyway-the land owns us remember?

For seven years, i've planted trees for a living.

It should be the DUTY and OBLIGATION of EVERY man, woman and child on the planet to be putting trees, endemic trees to whatever area, back into the earth that if NOT adhered to will be a Government offence; not being prosecuted for trying to protect the things as is the case now.
Is that not the most backward concept ever known to mankind?

You guys are doing a great job.
But the clones of consumption need to be smacked around the ears with the TRUTH, as we all know.

When will the forces of nature wage war on mankind?
We need nature, she doesn't need us and the sooner we become extinct the better, afterall, we'll be back.

I'm in the Philippines at the moment, a bit far from Ludlow.

Let me help, i need your help-fire away brothers and sisters.

Kindest regards,

I.P.
