ANNOUNCING MIGRANTE PERTH
"A specter haunts the world, and it is the spectre of migration"
- Hardt & Negri
Recently, the Perth chapter of an international NGO named Migrante International was inaugurated in Perth. Migrante Perth is a proactive organisation composed of radical Filipinos organising locally, nationally and transnationally, around migrant worker and human rights issues to do with the Filipino diaspora. Migrante's activities include various initiatives such as education, training, advocacy, affirmative action, cultural events, and consciousness-raising.
Most Filipino migrants could be considered 'economic refugees' (refusing
conditions of poverty at home, and following the flow of wealth that
the West extracts from the extremely resource-rich Philippines to the
shiny metropoles of the West, and demanding a part of that wealth that
has been appropriated from the poor majority world).
Migrante Perth has a comprehensive vision for a just society. Our
vision is to support a society where justice, freedom and equality
reigns so that Filipino migrants stands proud of their heritage and
can exercise their rights and potentials to the fullest. We aim to
unify the Filipino migrants in Perth, support genuine trade union,
migrant organization and other pro people organization and to generate
assistance for the struggle of the Filipino people for a just and
humane society.
