Read the account [written 17 Mar] by one of the two activists arrested last week at Beckley Bushland. The lengthy account follows the days events from the underground perspective of a day in the storm drain beneath the Beckley site as it was being cleared above by Bulldozers last Wednesday...
"...For the first part of my time in the tunnel, it was my biggest challenge. Not knowing. Suspense, curiousity coupled with having to endure stillness and cold got the better of me; I had to know something, anything (that there was still a sun - I did'nt care, I needed info and input). I decided after several hours, as it turned out (I had no concept of time in there) to crawl to the bush end of the tunnel and see if G was still up the tree. He was. I yelled out OI! but he did'nt hear me. I called out G! and waved to him; my waving caught his eye and he was obiously pleased to see that I did in fact make it to the tunnel. I was certainly pleased to see that he made it up the tree and looked comfortable..."
"...They knew that I could hear them, hence the fear-filled ideas but for some unknown reason they did'nt step away from the man-hole when they spoke honestly. I knew they were playing me coz I could hear everything they said and I knew from their conversationg that this was in fact not true... At one stage someone pretended to be TRG and tried to negotiate with me to come out. I did'nt respond and that was the last I heard from that person. It was such a strange event in all that happened, it seems like it was far less real than the rest, like it was a dream or something..."
