British billionare donated a million dollars to Australian Liberal Party |
| by elliot_k - perth |
2006-02-03 12:45 AM +0800 |
From Wikinews, February 3, 2006.
An Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) report has revealed that British billionaire Michael Ashcroft made a record $1 million donation to the Liberal Party of Australia. The AEC is legally required to make public the identities of major donors to political parties. |
The controversial donation by Lord Ashcroft (deputy chairman of the British Conservative Party), to the Liberals in 2004, is believed to be the biggest single donation from an individual in Australian politics. His donation pushed the Liberal Party's total for 2004-05 to $66.5 million.
Australian Democrats' senator Andrew Murray expressed alarm at the foreign donation. "There is no such thing as a free lunch," he said. "Foreign interference and influence in Australian domestic politics is absolutely unacceptable. Donations from overseas entities and foreigners must be banned outright."
Senator Murray has calculated that between 1998-99 and 2002-03 a total of $607,178 was paid to Australian political parties from foreign entities. He is concerned that foreign foundations can elude Australian disclosure laws.
"I don't know about you, but I've never met a businessman ever that will give you that amount of money without expecting something in return," Senator Murray said.
Australian Electoral Commission figures have also finally disclosed the backers behind the new right-wing religious party, Family First. Craig Winkler, chief executive of software firm MYOB, gave $200,000 to the party, while Dan Daniels, a Victorian pharmaceuticals millionaire, contributed $95,000.
The federal Opposition say around $8million given to the Liberal Party in 2004-05 will remain undisclosed under looming changes to the rules governing political donations.
"If the Liberal Party receives the same level of donations next year, up to $8million in secret donations will flow to Liberal Party coffers with no public scrutiny," Opposition spokesman for state affairs Alan Griffin said.
Prime Minister John Howard led the Liberal/National coalition to its fourth consecutive election victory in 2004. The win has boosted the Liberal governments majority, giving it control in both houses of parliament.
Ashcroft, 59, who is also the largest individual donor to the British Conservative Party, serves with Howard on the conservative International Democrat Union committee.

Steve Bracks ARSESUCKER
by pr Friday February 03, 2006 at 11:24 AM
The corrupt corporate tool Steve Bracks is presiding over a state of corruption. Steve Bracks sucks corporate and liberal party arseholes.
For evidence see how Bracks lunar right wing faction operate. Like fucking gangtsters. Now look at local goverment corruption flourishing under the Jeff Bracks corporate arsesucking regime. Now look at 'Australia's most corrupt institution', ( The Australian 2005 )
The Victorian police - a totally corrupt and dangerous shambles under the corporate criminal Steve Bracks.
Recently we learned of a million dollar donation to the Liberal party from the UK. A lord rich in influence - Controversial businessman Michael Ashcroft. - MICHAEL Ashcroft, the British political figure who made a record million-dollar donation to John Howard's Liberal Party, has set another gift-giving landmark.
The billionaire has become the first donor to make a pound stg. 1million ($2.36 million) donation to Britain's Conservative Party since the appointment of its new leader, David Cameron.
This sort of thing has happened before.
Haughey's reported 1 million donation to the Conservatives
Party funding is again in the headlines after news that a member of the Irish parliament has made a 1 million donation to the Conservatives.
News of the gift by Irish senator and pharmaceutical boss Edward Haughey, a member of the Upper House of the Irish parliament, was released on Monday reviving the debate over foreign funding of political parties.
Under new regulations which came into force earlier this year, UK political parties must now disclose the identities of big money donors.
Haughey is entitled to give money to British parties as long as he is registered to vote in the UK. His main residence is in Northern Ireland and his company, Norbrook Laboratories, is also based there. Irish citizens are entitled to vote in British elections so Haughey would not need a UK passport to comply with funding rules.
Haughey, whose fortune is estimated at 200 million, made a lump sum donation of 1 million from his company and a personal gift of 119,000, the Times reports.

Steve Bracks gives Victorian taxpayers money to Baron Haughhey - Media Statement - 27 May 2003
The Bracks Government will provide around $1.75 million from the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) to support new industrial land developments in Echuca, New Gisborne and Horsham.
NEW GISBORNE...$375,000 for an expansion to the New Gisborne Industrial Estate...
Expanding the New Gisborne Industrial Estate by a further 11 hectares will ensure pharmaceutical manufacturer Norbrook Laboratories can continue to expand in the region.

Infectious disease experts say revelations about a bacteria which resists a last-line antibiotic have alarming implications for the spread of infection in hospitals.
A strain of staphylococcus has been shown to have picked up multiple resistance to an antibiotic called Vancomycin.
Staphylococcus aureus has become resistant to four types of antibiotics over two decades, leaving Vancomycin as the main treatment.
United States research on a new Vancomycin resistant staph-aureus in today's Science journal says the antibiotic resistance came from unrelated bacteria.
Dr Paul Goldwater from Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital says the resistance coding can be picked up easily.
"If a bacterium is carrying this particular plasmid, it can transfer its plasmid to a non-resistant or sensitive strain and make that sensitive strain resistant to the antibiotic," he said.
Dr Goldwater says the resistant staph-aureus will spread to Australia.

By 2010, we want Victoria to be a State where:
innovation leads to thriving industries generating high quality jobs;
protecting the environment for future generations is built into everything we do;
we have caring, safe communities in which opportunities are fairly shared; and
all Victorians have access to the highest quality health care and education services throughout their lives.

Antibiotics are still being used to force pigs to grow unnaturally quickly, despite a ban and amid fears about the impact on human health. Since 1999, it has been illegal for farmers in the EU to use certain antibiotics to make pigs grow faster but the Soil Association has warned that sales of these drugs (antibiotic growth promoters) have rocketed.
There is evidence that antibiotics used in pig feed can make it more difficult to treat the hospital superbug VRE (1). A Government committee has also warned that the effectiveness of a drug used to treat food poisoning in children could also be affected (2). The World Health Organisation has recently called on all countries to ban the use of antibiotics for growth promotion to protect public health (3).

Corrupt crony capitalism costs us - it costs us to pay the corrupt corporate arsesucker Steve Bracks. It costs us when he gives away our money to factories pumping out anti-biotics for factory farming. It costs us when conservatives make massive profits from business like this that are banned in many countries. It costs the poor in this state who fall under the jackboots of steve Bracks police force - ' Australia's most corrupt institution '
It costs us our forests when Steve Bracks allows stealth logging. It costs us when massive bay dredging does not even get an EPA statement.
I say that it is way past time we made Bracks pay.

passport and nz pm interview |

I think the above posting may be mistaken. After listening to the aBC Interview between Helen Clark and Fran Kelly on Breakfast show this wednesday morning,?9th eh? She seems to say problems with people planning bombings in Australia on Your raids(not Our raids) last year. This probably means the Moslem stooge raids for which there is so little evidence at the moment and yet the guys are kept 23hrs a day in max sol confinement. Trouble is it is so hard to prove the intention of someone and really should one be interned for intention or evil thoughts or whatever.
Slippery slope we are on to fascism in the name of security just like the NAZIs did to their people.I wonder who we will invade and what our Rheikstag fire would be?
It is right to be vigilent for false flag attacks and for lies to deceive us as history is full of both.
cheers

Lord Ashcroft is an excellent object of interest, nicely tying the UK & US 'conservatives' in with intra-america's drug trafficking. Lord Ashcroft moved to Belize some decades ago to avoid UK taxes (didn't stop him being a big wheel in the Tory Party admin tho), bought the biggest bank in Belize, and then proceeded to run it as a prime clearing house for narcodollars from around the world (via v.soft ID standards, complex funds routing, profound lack of curiosity over huge sums). He shared a plane with Barry Seal, had travel patterns and business associates that drew the close attention of the US DEA and reginal agencies, but of course nothing has ever been pinned on him.
